Manual Add

Manually adding your musical works allows for the most flexibility and data consistency. Your data need not be in any special format, there is no need to create new spreadsheets that require tracking items back to specific fields, data validation is occurring as you add your catalog of musical works, and multiple team members can be working on the process at the same time.

Regardless of whether you choose to use your actual contracts,  documents and spreadsheets, or current inhouse systems, there is no right or wrong way to manually add your data, and clients are free to follow their own methodology and data validation processes.

The following guidelines and suggestions are provided to familiarize you with “best practices” for expediency when manually adding musical works to the Song Catalog using CODA Cloud.

Add Copyright Owners

Songwriters & Sound Recording Owners, Publishers and Income Participants data should be added first so that they are available for selection via drop-down lists when defining royalty splits during the musical works add process.

Add Musical Works to The Song Catalog

Next you will add musical works to the Song Catalog, using a simple two step process that allows for documenting detailed information for each musical work in your catalog.

  1. Initialize Musical Works Titles

Initialize one or more musical works titles using the Inline Add function which allows you to type in the song name, MLC code, ISRC codes and associated albums, performance rights organization registration status, contract begin date and term, and artist name directly to the list screen, similar to using a spreadsheet.

After typing in the data for the musical works that you wish to add, use Save or Save all to trigger the automatic assignment of a SONG ID, which is used to uniquely identify each musical work title within the system. This SONG ID is used throughout the system to associate other metadata, like copyright owner royalty splits, licenses, pitching, and royalties, back to the musical work.

Note: This step may also be completed by importing your  existing data/spreadsheets into the system. See Bulk Upload for more details.

  1. Edit Musical Works Details

Once the new musical work(s) titles and basic data have been successfully saved to the list, use the Edit function to manually complete the ownership details/royalty splits, and other metadata for each musical work. The following types of details and metadata may be entered for each musical work.

    1. Contract/Agreement Info
    2. Writer/Publisher Splits
    3. Income Participant Splits
    4. Sound Recording Info
    5. Performance & Mechanical Rights
    6. Song Classification
    7. Music/Library Agreements
