Initialize Musical Works

Before adding a musical work to the Song Catalog, Songwriters & Sound Recording Owners, Publishers,  and Income Participant data should be added so that they are available for selection via drop-down lists when defining ownership and royalty splits during the musical works add process.

Initialize one or more new musical works records directly on the list screen of the Song Catalog, by doing an Inline add followed by a Save all. At a minimum, the Song Name must be specified, however, you may also add MLC Song Code, ISRC-1 through 3 and associated Album 1 through 3, ISWC, PRO Status, contract Begin Date, contract Term, Retention Months, Retention Date, and Artist.

Clicking Save all will  initialize a musical work record for each title that was added and trigger the automatic assignment of a SONG ID, which is used to uniquely identify each musical work title within the system. This SONG ID is used throughout the system to associate other metadata, like copyright owner royalty splits, licenses, pitching, and royalties, back to the musical work.

Alternatively, you can initialize music works titles via Bulk Upload, by using a spreadsheet to import the song initialization data into the song catalog. To do this, click on the wheel in the upper right hand corner of the screen, select Import from the drop-down list, and follow the prompts to select the spreadsheet from your computer that you wish to use to initialize new music works titles.

Once you have selected your spreadsheet for import, you will need to individually match your spreadsheet columns (second line) via drop-down list selection, to the appropriate Song Catalog field (first line) that it matches. Only selected/matched columns will be imported. Other data on the spreadsheet will be ignored.

After the new musical work(s) titles and basic metadata have been successfully saved to the list, complete the details for each new title that was added using Edit.  The following information may be documented for each musial work:

    1. Contract/Agreement Info
    2. Writer/Publisher Splits
    3. Income Participant Splits
    4. Sound Recording Info
    5. Performance & Mechanical Rights
    6. Song Classification
    7. Music Library Agreements
