Writer/Publisher Splits

Complete the Writer/Publisher Splits section of the Song Catalog to indicate the copyright ownership of the musical work. As Writers/Publishers are added, be sure to indicate if the entity is “controlled” (Controlled? = ”Y”) under your publishing contract. If the musical work is under an income participation type of contract where royalties are based on a commission percentage, be sure to document the royalty splits in the Income Participant Splits section of the Song Catalog.

In addition to providing documentation of copyright ownership percentages, these splits are used to initialize royalty amounts for Publishers and Songwriters flagged as “controlled” when Licenses are added for the musical work.

Before you begin, be sure that the copyright owners exist in Songwriters & Sound Recording Owners and Publishers lists,  so that they are available for selection when defining ownership and royalty splits.

From the navigation menu, select the Song Catalog to display a list of musical works. This list is  sorted by Song Name (ascending order) and Special Handling (ascending order). Use the Search or Advanced Search functions to locate the song that you wish to modify.

Select the musical work for editing.

This will display the musical work details screen which allows entry of the musical works details.
