Reversion Option Report

The Reversion Option Report is accessed from the drop-down list in the Catalog Management module. This smart-list identifies the date on which active musical works from the Song Catalog are eligible for reversion back to the copyright owners.  The Reversion Option date for a musical work is calculated automatically by the system by adding the Term (number of months) to the Begin Date. Works are displayed in ascending reversion option date order so that the musical works that need more immediate attention are displayed at the top of the list.

The report is used to evaluate musical works that are approaching reversion, and to indicate retention of the musical work or reversion of the musical work back to the copyright owners.

  1. If retention is determined, the Term should be updated to show the additional number of months that the musical work will remain under contract.
  2. If reversion is determined, the Status of the musical work should be updated to “Inactive” and the End Date updated to reflect the termination date of the contract.

Records can be updated directly from the list by using the Edit function to update a single work,  or by selecting multiple works and then using the Update Selected function to update the works in bulk.

To update a single work directly from the list using the Edit function:

  1. Click on Edit next to the musical work.
  2. Make changes to the appropriate fields that need updated.
  3. Click Save to save the updates.

To update multiple works using the Update Selected function, you will need to select musical works with the same control data that needs updated (ex: select all 12 month terms that need extended to 24 months), or select musical works that will be updated to the same values (ex: select all records that will be reverted on a specific date and flagged as “inactive”). Examples are provided below.

Retain Musical Work / Extend Reversion Option Date

To extend the Reversion Option date for multiple works using the Update Selected function:

  1. Click on the checkboxes next to all musical works  that you wish to update. All selected musical works must have the same Term.
  2. Click on the Update selected button in the top left area of the screen.

  1. Click the checkbox to the left of Term. Add the desired number of months to the current number. For example, if the current term was 48 and you wanted to extend the musical works Reversion Option by one year, you would change the term to 60 (48 + 12 = 60).

  1. Click Update # records button to perform the update. [The # placeholder will reference how many records you are updating simultaneously.]
  2. Click Back to list to return to the Reversion Option Report.

Terminate Contract & Revert Back to Copyright Owners
