MLC Work Summary Data

MLC Work Summary Data is a repository for MLC royalty detail summarized at a musical works level. This data is used by the Process MLC Song Royalties dashboard in the Royalties module to show the total accrued value of royalties for each song, and the associated MLC detail records for any incoming royalties that have not yet been processed and distributed to the copyright owners.


The “Work Summary” statement spreadsheet provided by the MLC each month may be downloaded from your MLC portal and imported to this repository. Once imported, it can be sorted, searched, reviewed, and analyzed in support of your royalty management process.


Download “Work Summary” Data From MLC


Before you can use this feature, you must first download the “Work Summary” spreadsheet from your MLC portal. The following are general guidelines as to how to properly download the spreadsheet from the MLC. Consult the MLC help articles for detailed instructions.


  1. Log into your MLC portal.
  2. Click on the ROYALTIES heading from the sidebar.
  3. Select the DISTRIBUTION PERIOD that you are processing (ex: June 2021)
  4. This will display the royalty details for the selected distribution period.
  5. Under STATEMENTS, click on VIEW.
  6. A list is displayed grouped by DSP with the total amount of royalties from that DSP in the selected distribution period. Click on SELECT ALL heading to select all of the royalty detail for the distribution period.
  7. At the bottom of the screen, click on CONTINUE TO DOWNLOAD to begin to download the detail information for the selected royalties.
  8. When prompted, select DOWNLOAD OPTIONS of:
    1. Format = Work Summary
    2. File Type = Consolidated
    3. Then click on DOWNLOAD
  9. You will get a confirmation email from the MLC when the download is ready.


Import MLC “Work Summary” Data


MLC Work Summary Data is accessed via the drop-down list in the Licensing module. This will display a list of all MLC royalty detail records that you have imported into the system.

To import the MLC Work Summary TSV file, click on Import from the drop-down menu in the upper right hand corner of the screen to start the process.


Click on Browse from the pop-up screen and select your saved MLC Work Summary file.




This will display the import verification screen where you should review how the fields from the spreadsheet will be imported into the system. It is critical that you review and verify accuracy of the import data matching before continuing! Once you have validated that all fields are properly accounted for, press the  Import Data button to begin the process. When the process is finished, a pop up window will indicate how many records were added during the import. You may then go Back to List to review your data.


What To Do If You Encounter Errors


Optionally, you may Delete one or more records from the list.


To maintain the integrity of the work summary data provided by the MLC, it is advised that this option only be used for situations where you had import errors and you would like to delete the imported data, and then start the process over again.


For example, if you accidentally imported the MLC work summary data twice for a single usage period (in this example Usage Period Start Date of 06/01/2021), your best option is to delete all of the data from both imports and then start the import process over. In this situation, you could use the Advanced Search to restrict your list to records with Usage Period Start Date equal to 06/01/2021, select all records in the result set, then press the Delete button to remove the records. After that you can begin the import process over again for the usage period.
